"Price Quote"

Release Notes of Price Quote
An alternative option to place orders
by Marvin Park with Summer Park | 2014-11-18 EST
Dear all BrickLinkers,
Last month, I mentioned Price Quote as the first E-commerce project milestone of BrickLink Product Roadmap. I'm so glad to announce the release of this feature on November 19th.
The purpose of the Price Quote feature is to provide an option for buyers to request a quote before entering an order contract. The buyer will know the final cost of an order before placing the order, while the seller can suggest a final price without holding inventory.
For buyers/requestors:
The process for requesting a quote is very similar to our standard checkout process. After clicking the checkout button, you will see a “Request a Quote” button. You can only see this button if the seller enables this feature in their store. Next, you choose your payment and shipping methods. Once you send the request, the seller should give you a quote within 3 business days. If you decide to place the order after receiving the quote, simply click the “Order” button on the Quote Details page within 3 business days. Our system will then automatically create a new order and send you the invoice. You are not obligated to place an order when you request a quote. If you do not take any action on the quote, the quote will automatically cancel after 3 business days.
For sellers:
If you decide to use the Price Quote feature in your store, you must first enable it from your My Store Settings page (note: this feature is always enabled if BOTH the buyer and seller are in Germany). On your My Quotes page, you can enter values for each item, such as shipping and insurance for requested quotes. Clicking “Submit Changes” on the Received Quotes page does NOT mean that you sent a quote to a buyer. To send a quote, click on the QID (Quote ID), then click the “Quote” button on that page. You are not obligated to hold the item(s) for the requestor, but please respond within 3 business days of receiving a quote request. If no action has been taken within 3 business days, the quote will be automatically canceled.
Additional information:
The buyer and seller are both required to respond to quote requests within 3 business days (weekends are not included). Holidays are counted as business days unless they fall on the weekend. Time-tracking is based on BrickLink’s website time (EST), and quote data will be purged from the server after 1 month.
Glossary:
QID: A unique numeric ID for each quote.
Quote Status: Requested, Quoted, Accepted or Cancelled.
- Requested: The requestor/buyer has asked for a quote, and seller has yet to respond.
- Quoted: The seller has submitted a quote for the buyer, and the buyer has yet to accept it.
- Accepted: The buyer/requestor has accepted the proposed order total by clicking the “Order” button on the Quote Details page. Once this is done, a new order should be created, and an invoice with the quoted price will automatically send to buyer. For the seller, a new order will be created with “Invoiced” status.
- Cancelled: There are 3 possible cases that a quote would be cancelled:
1. The seller did not provide a quote within 3 business days.
2. The buyer/requestor did not take any action on the quote within 3 business days of receiving it.
3. Once the requestor decided to accept the quote, the order items were no longer in stock.
Update - Above it says "this feature is always enabled if BOTH the buyer and seller are in Germany". However we decided to remove this restriction and let German sellers toggle whether they will support quotes in their store or not.
Thanks,
BrickLink Team
