Lego – EV3 - Big and Light Tank Climber #12

Hi, so far. Here is my new tank.

My goal was to make a robotic structure based on a tank frame.
This tank should be sufficiently large and especially light enough to climb stairs, whatever they are, and even those with nosing. These imposing a great height, see my previous videos.
With a length of 85cm and a weight of 2.5kg, I feel I have reached my goal.
Furthermore an additional charge of 1kg is possible and will allow additional batteries or any component for a particular application. This 1kg load is a maximum as you can see in my video, it struggles to climb stairs.
For the tracks, I used  D  joint (window joint) as shown in my previous videos.
Thank you for your feedback.

Settings and detail components with their weight:
Length 85cm
Width 48cm
Height 22cm
Chassis Weight 1300g
EV3 + 165g battery 122g
4 large servos 82g x 4 = 328g
Infrared receiver 20g
Cables 44g
Track with D joint 272g x 2 = 544g
Front tank angle 35°

Great job - and also inspiring ;)
Do you know how long can the EV3 battery run those 4 large servo motors (and 2.5 Kg) on plain floor?

Congratulations on your success! :clapping: It's just sad that being able to interface with designed-for-humans stairs requires such a large machine, much of it is structure.

I see you apparently removed suspension from this iteration, did it have that small of an improvement in the grip?

Thank you. I do it climbing the wooden stairs of 11 steps, 32 times, and then I stopped by security because he weakened. What do you mean, plain flour ? My tests are only inside.

Thank you.
I do not understand what you ask. This tank has the same tracks as the previous.

That's already a good measure. I mean inside, just plain floor, no steps. I've made an EV3 tank some time ago, Technic rubber tracks only, less than 1 Kg, 2 large EV3 motors only, and it drained battery a lot.

Your big and light tank would benefit a custom EV3 battery :)

I still enjoy your video communication style, clean and simple but also straight to the point.  :fixe:

I mean it seems you don't use suspension for the wheels on your latest iteration, but I remember you used it on previous iterations; did you conclude suspension wasn't beneficial enough?

I second that. Your videos are very clear, without needing words and therefore are language-independent. Good job! :clapping:

Exactly, suspension causes more problems than solutions, especially upon contact with stair nosing. The goal is to use this tank for a robot, no need for the soldier comfort. And there is no canon to mantain horizontal rolling like a real tank.
