SR 3D Builder 0.5.6.1 released!
Hi everybody
I'm proud to announce my latest release of the application with some great new functionality.
Here is the list of what's new:
Added
- The ability to switch between standard user interface with free rotation, and a more common user
interface having separate X and Y rotation axis and a fixed (not selection dependant) rotation centre
(see preference dialog box for switching)
- Fixed length flex parts (Flex Axle, Tubes and Ribbed Hoses)
Fixed
- Problem when adding a rack while having a Technic Gear 24 Tooth Clutch in your model
- Axle misalignement while connecting to angled connectors parts
- Hidden (wrong) connection detection among gears in specific positions
- Some bugs in hinges movements when parallel quad were sharing 2 rotation points (nodes)
- A bug was preventing correct import of .DAT files (MLCad file format) when having submodels
Changed
- Group management has been totally rewritten. Now support:
o Hierarchyc groups
o Layered groups
o Hide/Show groups
available as always from
http://staff.polito.it/sergio.reano
and here is a video (a bit longer than usual, but it worth) (see below)
enjoy and feedback
and please, some little contribution for my hard work :col:

Re: SR 3D Builder 0.5.6.1 released!
I was not installing 'SR 3D Builder' for sometime.
So it was never installed in my laptop current OS installation.
Yesterday decided to give it a try.
Everything went Ok during installation process, but the application don't run.
Not even start, so there is no noticeable crash at all.
I'm using 'Windows XP'

Hi,
have you followed the instructions on my website download page?
You need Microsoft Framework 2.0 to run the application
You need to install the required directx version following the link on the same page
Also ensure you have latest driver for you graphic card. Check your vendor website to that
let me know...

Re: SR 3D Builder 0.5.6.1 released!
Hi Sergio,
Yes I read the download page and didn't find any reference to MS Framework 2.0.
Regarding the DirectX (guess it relates with the MSF2 above) and since may laptop had a new installation, I assumed it was Ok. Well it seems it was not!...
I've installed it and now it runs.
Although it would be better if the program sends to the user some warning message stating something is missing, then resting totally irresponsive.
Now a few comments from my side,
When starting to use the application from a fresh installation, I feel some issues.
- Frequent unhandled exceptions
- I believe it would be more comfortable for the user if you present the parts window, with a pre-selected 'Brick Type'.
For instance "Brick".
It won't make the user to feel there is something going wrong.
- The Minifigs tab is strange. It displays always "Work in Progress..." even after clicking on "Click to start working with Minifigs". Ok! I see now, this is a feature still under development.

Re: SR 3D Builder 0.5.6.1 released!
Happy for you if it works!!
- About missing / wrong library: It microsoft that should send out some messages since my application does not start. No one of my application instruction is executed if something is missed. It simply crash. I tested it and I can do nothing about.
- About unhandled exceptions: can you be more detailed? If I can reproduce them I will fix hopefully
- About starting with something selected: yes, it is reasonable !!
let me know... and enjoy building
